1. Can I use your station for a family event?
Sorry, but no.
Due to past abuse of our facilities, we have restricted the use

2. Someone came to my house asking for a donation. Is this normal?
We DO NOT go door to door asking for
donations.
If somebody does try to collect money in this manner, they are
trying to steal
from you! Please do not fall for this scam.

3. I've been getting calls from people that say they are raising money for your department. Are they legitimate ?
Twice a year we do have a photographer come in and take pictures as
a type of fundraiser.
However, if you receive a call that you have uneasy feelings
about, you can verify that the caller was raising funds for our
department by contacting us at 752-3879.
Someone is at our Main Station Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to
5:00 pm, & they will be glad to assist you.

You can stop by the Main Station Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to
5:00pm and get a Permit from us, or you can
get a permit online at The Division of Forestry Resources.
There are a few rules you should know before getting a Burning
Permit
You CAN NOT Burn
- Garbage, Paper and Cardboard
- Tires and other rubber products
- Building materials, including lumber and wood scraps
- Wire, plastics and synthetic materials
- Asphalt shingles and heavy oils
- Paints, household and agricultural chemicals
- On days that have High Winds
You can be fined up to $10,000.00 for illegal open burning
in North Carolina.
All Outdoor Burns should be between 8:00am and 6:00pm.

7. I have seen trucks leave the station with lights & sirens blaring, then they turn everything off and continue down the road. Why is that?
When we are dispatched to a call it is considered an emergency, but
if another unit arrives before we do, they may tell us that we can
"Downgrade" our response.
Lights and Sirens warn people that we have an emergency, but if
it is determined that there is not an urgent need for us to respond we
may not use them.

8. Why do I see some firefighters responding to calls in the fire trucks, and others responding in their Privately Owned Vehicles with emergency lights?
Volunteers are a valuable asset to our department. Since our station
is not manned 24 hours a day, Volunteers must respond from wherever
they may be to our station. When the needed apparatus has checked
Enroute, all of the other responding members will continue on to the
location of the incident.
As with any emergency vehicle, the Volunteers use Lights to
identify them as emergency personnel responding to an
incident.

9. Often when passing your Main Station I have seen an EMS vehicle parked there, but I can't find any pictures of it on your website. Why is that?
The EMS vehicle that you have seen is a Quick
Response Vehicle. The QRV is
owned & operated by Pitt County EMS, and is equipped with one
Paramedic Supervisor.
Pitt County asked that the unit be placed at our station as we
are a central location for the Northern portion of the
County.

10. I just installed a new Pool for the summer, Will you bring a truck out to fill it for me?
Pitt County Water Usage Policies do not allow us to fill swimming
pools anymore.
The water that we get from hydrants are from the municipal water
supply, and are intended to be used in emergencies only.
Also, water sits in our trucks for extended periods of time,
allowing rust and other sediments to collect in the tank. If we were to
fill a pool with that water, you would likely spend more money cleaning
the water with chemicals than if you had just used a yard hose in the
beginning.
